Public safety is a critical issue facing the future of our city. As the City looks to invest $40 million or more in our police department, it is important that we explore all of our options. After speaking with police chiefs and researching best practices across the country, I’m convinced we need to explore the possibility of investing in a precinct model of policing to get officers closer to the communities they serve. Our assessment of this model has been positive, as both officers and community members attest to its effectiveness in reducing crime and raising the sense of security to our citizens.
